Good but our cats didn't like the swinging door. We had to remove it, so it's a trimmed hole now.My 2 cats are starting to get use to it...scared them to death at first. My bedroom door go out to a screen porch an they love going back an forth, it almost drove me crazy. Now they come an go at will an don't bother me to let them in an out. They still have not gotten the hang of opening the flap themselves but we are doing it by stages. I taped the swing door open so they could 1st get use to going in an out on their own. We've only had it in a couple weeks. Next we will teach them how to open the flap themselves. But so fare its GREAT! I'm happy an the girls are happy!! One is 9 yrs an the other 9 month an both are enjoying it. Worth the price for sure. UPDATE:7/22/2014 Cats refuse to use the flap and we wonder if it is because the flap is tinted? I called Petmate up and they said they don't make a clear flap replacement and the rep couldn't have cared less(typical customer service!). I use duct tape to hold the flap up and we use a small pillow propped up against the opening to keep out the Texas heat. The cats have learned to move it aside when they want out or in. We just have to put the pillow back up all the time. I guess I'll try another brand with a clear flap and see how it works! Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks-this update posted by Bill. UPDATE:7/24/2014 I wrote an email to Ani Mate and received a response and YES, they do carry a clear replacement flap and the person I spoke to originally was wrong. I emailed Amazon receipt and because it still under warranty, they're shipping the flap free of charge. Thank you Petmate for correcting the problem. We'll see if my cats use the new flap. I'll update this review in awhile. Thanks, Bill. UPDATE:1/12/2015 Cats are using the clear flap!Took out the magnet and locking mechanism so the older cat could get in and out easier.Still use a pillow at nite to keep out heat and cold. Bill.I rate this 4 ⭐️ because it is a bit small. I hope my young cats don’t grow too much more. Also it only has 2 locking options( locked or not). This was kind of my mistake. I got mixed up in details from other doors. I choose this one because I knew I needed an extender and knew this would be compatible and forgot to check for a 4 option door. All in all I’m pretty happy with the product. It seems well built and the install went as well as could be expected. Thank you to the others who left helpful tips on what to expect. Our door needed to give access to the outside and could only go through a wall. The tunnel distance was about 5.25”. 2 extenders were necessary which is what I had anticipated reading other reviews. ?.I did not use the template. For the outside wall I traced the inside of the cat door. After cutting, I had to shave off a few mm to get the insert to fit. It got a bit messy. So for the inside I traced the outside of an extender. (After measuring very carefully It went much better. For the thickness of our wall 2 extenders were too long so I had to trim an extender a bit to get a snug fit but it was simple to do with some tin snips.I’ve taped the door open until the cats get used to their new tunnel. No hesitation from them so far. Finally I can close and lock our patio doors again?.This was shipped in no time and packaged perfectly. We put this into an interior steel door between the house and the garage. Cutting through the steel with a jigsaw was the hardest part of the job, since it had to be cut individually from both sides of the door (door was too thick to cut through entire door in one cut). I think this could be a 20 minute job, but our challenges took it to a 2-hour job. No fault of the product of course.Once the hole was made, it was easy enough to fit the door from the 2 sides. We have an old, fat cat, and she has no problems going through this door. We got this door as it looked like the weather-sealing was the most advanced, and so far it seems to be working well.I do think the instructions that came with the door were poor. With so many variables for door or walls and thicknesses of both, they should've supplied more than picture-only instructions. There were arrows pointing everywhere trying to establish some kind of flow chart for these variables, but sometimes they were incorrect or dubious, and we ended up installing it more based on common sense than following instructions. That's fine if you have some handyman know-how, but I wouldn't want my mother having to install this by herself. Since you have to cut a hole in a wall or door, and possibly cut the actual product too depending on the width needed, they've just left too much up to an interpretation of diagrams and arrows. After looking at many models and reviews I decided to pull the trigger on this one.Pros:The installation was fairly simple. As with most doors, its recommended you removed the door and you'll have to measure and balance so the cat door isn't crooked. The provided cutout was very helpful for tracing where to jigsaw (a decent jigsaw is essential). The door itself seems to be of good quality, especially considering the price. I like how snuggly it closes and how little air can come through. It took our cat several weeks to get use to the idea of using the door but with practice, patience, and persistence he learned to use it. The door also has one of the best visual designs I've seen (of course my door in question is white).Cons:The lock button/mechanism is OK but not great. It feels a little cheap and awkward at times but it still functions appropriately. Unfortunately, this model can only be locked or unlocked. Many doors have 4-way locking that allows the cat in but not out. Was this as big as deal as I thought? Not really. When I want the cat to go down he follows or I put him inside. When I want to get him out I unlock the door. The only other thing I would change is I would flip the design or be able to lock from either side. The side that is more flush with the door (the better looking side) doesn't have access to the lock. Being a visually picky person I put the door on 'backwards' and it works fine.Overall:Would I pick this door again? Yes, so far so good.i used this cat flap for my bedroom door as my pregnant ragdoll got locked out my bedroom so she clawed at my carpet to get in there ive included how thick my door is as i couldn’t find a review with this so hope this helps this is the medium cat flap even tho it looks small and fits my very large pregnant ragdollThis is very good and inexpensive cat flap.Instructions are clear and included template makes cutting very easy.Once installed they work perfectly, locking function easy to use.Had 2 of these for over a year and no issues.Previous to this cat flap I had a very expensive do everything one that worked off a chip, by I think Petport. All very well until my baby cat decided to do an athletic long jump from the garden, through the cat flap and into the kitchen. Ended up with a totally useless cat flap. Thought that I would go for this one as it was basic and looked quite big. Baby cat is now long legged and just as active. Cat flap arrived. Thought at first it would be too small for the previously cut space in the door. Wrong. It fitted perfectly. Have had this inexpensive cat flap for a few month now. Has survived, rain, gales, two chasing wild cats going in and out. The kitchen is also a lot warmer as it does work. Also it is silent in use. I recomend this product.Sold as one you can add wall winners to. Ordered flap and wall winners then had someone fit it. Problem is the locking bit is behind the front plate. This means I have to put my hand through the long lined tube to lock it!!!! It seams other makes are at the front but not cat mate. I also measured the wall depth ordering 5 liners but that wasn't enough and had to order another. Bit disappointed as flap and liners ended up being expensive. Luckily the flap goes into a large cat pen so other cats can't get in so don't have to continually bend down, put my arm through the tunnel to lock it. I've put Velcro round the edge of the inner plate and attach a bit of old link to stop them going out at night and also stop draphs when very windy. This cat flab is great once it is installed correctly. The magnet keeps out the cold and my big cat moves in and out of it with ease.Unfortunately it's a bit of a pain to install because the manafacturer does not supply adequate screws. We had to cut the the tunnel piece down to the medium size and the screws were not long enough. My partner had to go out and purchase longer screws and while this comes at minimum expense, it is rather inconvenient. I don't understand why they have bothered supplying screws as they are completley useless! A good DIYer is required I would say which is a shame. In conclusion, if you don't mind a bit of a faf with the screw issue and you are ecperienced at DIY then I would say buy this for your cat as it does a great job once in place. If you want something that comes out of the box and can be popped into place within the hour then don't buy this cat flap.
