I had to laugh at the previous reviews of this toy. I might hate this toy if it squeaked endlessly too. Fortunately, none of the mouse balls I purchased had that problem. My cat, like many cats, goes into a playing spree at night. So I take away his noisy toys for night time and hide them on the fridge or in the microwave where he can't get them, then give them back to him in the morning. He doesn't seem to mind too much. This is my cat's favorite toy. I used to buy him just the mice, but he would chew off the tail and the ears within an hour, then proceed to rip out the squeaker and leave the remnants of the cloth scattered about. So then I started cutting off the tail and the ears before giving him the toy, but then it wouldn't last long at all before he got the squeaker out.Putting his favorite toy inside the ball is a genius idea. He tosses the ball, chases after it, paws at it endlessly, trying to get at that little mouse inside. All the while it squeaks away, inticing him to play with it more.I bought about 5 of these in the past few months from pet stores, and he figured out how to grip the tail to get it out of the ball and then grab on to the mouse to pull it out too. Once he disengages the mouse or destroys the ball, it's a dead toy and he gets a new one (roughtly 2 per month). These toys last the longest of all his toys, by far (except the indestructible mini-kong that he doesn't play with).I recently found these on amazon and they're a lot cheaper here than at the petstore. I bought 5 mouse balls and combined shipping was only $5. It's definitely a deal. It's been 3 weeks now and my cat is still on his first of five balls. He doesn't care about the mouse tail anymore, he just tries to rip out the squeaker. After a few days he succeeds, I find the squeaker in some odd part of the house, sew it back in and he gets another week out of it. For the past week or so, he's been playing with it without the squeaker since he somehow broke it (or maybe its lifespan ran out) when he ripped it out. Since he still plays with it, I haven't given him a new one.Again, I think this is the best toy ever invented (for my cat, at least).---update 07/25/2012My cat still loves these mouse balls. Every few months I'll stock up on them, so that I only have to pay for shipping once, and then give him a new ball when he destroys the old one. The mouse ball isn't his super favorite toy anymore, but it's a close second, and definitely the best for solo play.Sometime in the past two years, the company changed these toys slightly. The rubber is a little thicker, so the toys last longer, but the squeaker inside is much more fragile. The old squeakers used to be encased in a semi-flat round plastic container, so even if my cat bit the toy or clawed at the squeaker, it wouldn't break. The new squeakers are very flimsy and not encased in anything. It's easy for a tooth or claw to puncture through the thin round metal piece and then the squeaker is dead. It's still a great toy, but the squeakers don't get recycled into other toys anymore.
